Smart Toilet Buying Guide: 7 Things to Check Before You Buy

Mr·tao smart toilets V6, 730 and E010

A smart toilet costs more than a standard toilet, and most problems after installation come from details you can check in ten minutes before you buy: where the drain is, where the power point is, and how much space you have. This checklist covers the seven things we ask every customer and dealer to confirm first.

1. Measure the rough-in

The rough-in is the distance from the finished wall behind the toilet to the centre of the drain outlet in the floor. Measure from the tile surface, not from the skirting board, to the centre of the drain pipe.

  • 300 mm (about 12 in) is the most common size in apartments and newer homes.
  • 400 mm and 250 mm are also used, often in older buildings.

Buy a toilet that matches your drain. Offset adaptors exist, but they move the outlet and can affect flushing. All Mr·tao smart toilets use a 300 mm rough-in.

2. Plan the power point

A smart toilet needs a grounded power outlet close to the toilet, usually on the wall behind or beside it. Because a bathroom is a wet area, the outlet should be on a circuit with residual-current protection and installed by a licensed electrician.

Check the voltage too. Most of Southeast Asia and the Middle East use 220–240 V, so confirm that the model's rated voltage matches your country before you order.

3. Check your water pressure

Tankless smart toilets flush directly from the water supply, so they need steady water pressure. In high-rise buildings or areas where pressure drops at peak times, a smart toilet with a built-in tank is less dependent on mains pressure. Every Mr·tao smart toilet comes with a tank.

4. Measure the space

Smart toilets are often longer than standard toilets because of the seat unit. Measure the length from the wall to the front of the toilet, the width between walls or cabinets, and check that the door still opens freely with the toilet in place.

Model Length × width × height (mm)
Mr·tao 953 580 × 380 × 445
Mr·tao S59 595 × 380 × 460
Mr·tao 951 670 × 400 × 470
Mr·tao 730 680 × 395 × 440
Mr·tao 727 Grey 688 × 410 × 515
Mr·tao 714 700 × 400 × 440
Mr·tao V6 700 × 435 × 470

For a small bathroom, start with the shorter models such as the 953 or S59.

5. Choose the seat functions you will actually use

Common smart seat functions include a heated seat, warm-water wash, adjustable water temperature and pressure, a warm-air dryer, a night light, automatic flushing and a remote control. More functions mean more parts to maintain. For rental units and hotels, a simpler set of functions is often easier to look after; for a family home, a heated seat and warm-water wash are the features people tend to use every day.

6. Look at the ceramic and how easy it is to clean

The bowl is still ceramic, and the quality of the glaze decides how easily dirt wipes off. High-temperature firing gives a denser, harder glaze; Mr·tao ceramic is fired at 1280°C. Also check whether the seat lifts off for cleaning and whether the lid closes softly.

7. Ask about warranty, parts and service

Before you buy, ask the seller how long the warranty is, who handles repairs in your country, and whether spare parts such as the seat unit and remote are available. Keep the model number and your invoice with the manual. For Mr·tao smart toilets, the warranty terms are confirmed in your quote.
